If you find yourself confused by what you've read to this point, don't despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

One of the most intriguing plants available today are the Lucky Bamboo Plants. This lovely plant can be found just about anywhere now, in florist shops, specialty shops, and your neighborhood discount store or even in one of several online stores. Chances are that you have already seen them displayed in numerous ways.

This eloquent plant can be purchased by individual stalks, or combining several stalks together for a striking arrangement. Whether you desire an intertwining woven effect or a simple single heart shaped stalk, Lucky Bamboo Plants can add a beautiful accent to any room.

While these plants look exotic and perhaps hard to take care of - looks are often deceiving. With some very simple and basic care, your Lucky Bamboo plants can share your home for a very long time.

Lucky Bamboo is not bamboo. It is part of the Dracaena Sanderiana family, naturally growing on the floor of the rainforests. There is your first clue that this does not have to be a difficult plant to grow in your home.

Whether grown in water or in soil, caring for Lucky Bamboo can be very easy. Indirect sunlight is where this plant will enjoy healthy growth, too much sunlight will turn the leaves yellow, and too little light will dull the overall color of the plant. Pick a spot that does not have full sunlight - or even a windowless room with one good light source from a lamp would be the perfect spot to display your Lucky Bamboo Plant.

Watering needs differ a bit depending on if you are displaying your plant completely as a water plant or grown in soil. If grown in soil, the Lucky Bamboo Plant does not like a soggy home. Fast draining soil with some pebbles mixed in would allow for good drainage.

You would want to let the soil dry out a bit between watering - pressing your finger into the soil about an inch deep should tell you if the deeper soil is still moist. For best results, you would want consistently moist but not wet soil. Once you've cared for your plant for a few weeks you will get a better idea of how long it takes to get to that point depending on temperatures in the room and the soil mix you've used.

When grown as a water plant you have a few options. Depending on if you use a small pot, or a tall, slender vase - or even a display that has several double opened vases on a decorative base, keeping the Lucky Bamboo healthy and happy in water does not have to be difficult at all. Normally there would be some small rocks, pebbles or even marbles in the bottom of the pot or vase; place your Lucky Bamboo on this foundation then add a few more of those steadying materials to secure the plant in it's container. Add bottled water, room temperature (never tap water unless it's been allowed to stand for 24 hours) to cover the rocks making sure the roots are in water and an inch or more above.

About every other month a very diluted plant fertilizer can be added to the water, but not too much as this can cause trouble if overdone.

Once a week empty out the water in the container and add fresh. Not so terribly difficult at all. With some very basic, simple care, your Lucky Bamboo Plant can give you years of enjoyment.

Lucky Bamboo Plants are some of the most carefree plants you can own. With even a limited amount of time, these plants will thrive in a variety of environments. Take it from me, as someone who has loved gardening for many years, lucky bamboo plants are very easy to grow compared to many other indoor plants.

Many people claim to not have a green thumb but let me tell you with these little beauties, green thumbs will help but are not necessary. I have been growing various types of indoor and outdoor plants over my lifetime. Each plant has its own advantages and disadvantages but overall, I find the lucky bamboo plants to be the most enjoyable.

There's a lot to understand about caring for lucky bamboo. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles.
